Golf is part of the history of Tampico, dating back from its Golden Age when the foreing oil companies established their operations in the region. Along with the important industrial and commercial development, the practice of golf became a tradition in Tampico. Founded in 1925 the Tampico Country Club, today's Club Campestre de Tampico, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Mexico and is a member at the Asociación de Golf de México (The Mexican Golf Association). The Club Campestre de Tampico is a privately held club that has a 9-hole course with different sets to complement the 18-hole course in two rounds par 70. Given its excellent design that optimizes the natural obstacles of the local terrain as well as abundant vegetation and the Chairel Lagoon that borders the golf course partially is one of the most beautiful of the region and with a great tradition in the golf history of Mexico. During the Mexican Holy Week, a traditional tournament has been entertained for the last 81 years.
Another great option to practice this sport will be in the spectacular golf course that is being built in the Desarrollo Campestre El Paraíso at Barra del Tordo, only one hour away from Tampico. It is a 7,125-yard golf course par 72 with 18 holes designed by Robert Von Hagge.
Club de Golf Lagunas de Miralta has and undulating course par 72 has water in 11 of its 18 holes since it is mostly surrounded by lagoons and interior lakes. It allows the payment of green fee and offers golf car rental and caddies.
