Xiconténcatl - Touristic Sites
La Plaza

At the main square located on Juárez Street, on one side of the Don Benito Juárez statue. There is a majestic tree (ceiba), silent witness of the revolution times and that as per several people, was used to hang to the oppositors of the revolution.
Maestro Almanza's Wall Paintings
Part of the cultural heritage of Xicoténcatl of modern times are the wall paints from Don Jesús Almanza Ríos, located at the Escuela Secundaria Federal Pedro J. Méndez (Middle-School Pedro J. Méndez) where he was a professor and at the Municipal Palace. Among his finest is the Fundación de Tenochtitlan (Tenochtitlan Foundation).
Ex Haciendas

Inside the Municipality, after 1910, several haciendas flourished, among them El Salitre, La Victoria, La Piedra and the hacienda Santa Cruz. Today some parts of them still remain like the Hacienda Victoria, pictured here.
The Valley of the Mammoths

The Valley of the Mammoths is located on an arid plain of approximately 3 Km2 from the cuaternaria era located 5 Km to the north of the City, where in a site called El Salitrillo, on February 13th, 1959 a worker that went hunting discovered fossil remains that where taken to the Museum of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas at Cd. Victoria, the Capital of the State.
How to get there: This site is located near Xicoténcatl, but there are no adequate signals, having to go through several trails. We recommend to ask to a local person the best way to get there.
El Laurel de las Gallinas

This famous tree from India is more than 200 years old, and is known as the Laurel de las Gallinas, it has a great symbol for the inhabitants of Xicoténcatl. Its diameter is bigger than 100 meters, its big branches when they reach the floor had began to grow roots and started to grow new trees. To introduce one self to the inside of the top of the trees is a great experience, since one feels to be inside of a forest. This tree is located inside private property, but can be admired from outside. It is located after the grounds of the Expo-Feria at the limits of Xicoténcatl.
Edificio del Hotel Palacio

At some areas of this town, we can find several antique buildings that are a reflection of the importance of the city at the beginning of the last century, a testimony of this is the building of the Hotel Palacio situated at the corner of Reforma and Allende Streets
