Historia
Nuevo Morelos is a municipality and its headsite is the town with the same name. It was founded on October 19th, 1869 with the name of Villa de Morelos, known before as Congregación de Mesillas by being located on the riversides of the Mesillas River.

Between 1911 and 1915, the inhabitants of this Villa emigrated from other places due to mistreatments and lack of guaranties from the government. In 1921, they decided to return to repopulate this town and a commission headed by Pedro Gómez Rodríguez was formed with the purpose to travel to the capital of the State to request guaranties and form a municipal government.
