Mante

The municipality is located on the southern part of the State of Tamaullipas, on the Guayalejo oTamesí River basin. With an elevation of 80 masl having the same semi-dry extreme weather with maximum temperature readings from 400 to 460 Celsius during summer and minimum temperatures of 40 to 260 during winter season. It has a territorial extension of 1,669.98 Km2 and composed by 171 population dwellings being the head site for the municipality the City of Mante.

The Guayalejo River is the main pluvial current of the municipality and is born 4 kilometers to the north of Quintero. Other rivers that communicate to the Guayalejo River are the Santa Clara, Tantoán and the Las Ánimas Creek that now forms the water reservoir of the same name and that also is the geographical boundary between this county and González. Another important water reservoir is the Lázaro Cárdenas with a total area of 72 acres.

The City of Mante is located at only 153 Km (95.62 miles) from the Metropolitan Zone of Tampico, Madero and Altamira on Federal Highway 80 and only 129 Km (80.62 miles) from the State Capital, Cd. Victoria following Federal Highway 85 Mexico-Nuevo Laredo.

History

The Municipality of Mante was founded on April 1921 with the name of Villa Juárez at the Antigua Congregacion Canoas when Quintero (now Magiscatzin) lost its rank as the municipality site by a State's Congress resolution. Beginning October 28th, 1937, Villa Juárez was promoted to City status with its actual name (Cd. Mante). There are several versions of the roots where the name as developed, the best as per knowledge people on this matter is form by two roots of the teneek language spoken by the huasteca tribes that inhabited the region, "man" meaning yellow and "te" meaning woodstick or tree, referring to the tree with the same name that its fruit when it matures turns yellow in color.
