Gómez Farías

The Municipality of Gómez Farías has a territorial extension of 432.57 Km2; it is located in the middle part of the State of Tamaulipas and is composed by 115 population centers. Of these, the town of Gómez Farías (The Head Site for the Municipality) is situated at an altitude of 350 masl. The El Cielo Biosphere Ecological Reserve, a strong potential ecological tourism resource, composes part of its territory.

Gómez Farías is situated on the Guayalejo River Basin, having several climate types but being the predominant the Semi Warm with a temperature that ranges between 7°C in winter and 14°C in spring. The oriental portion corresponds to the coastal plain of Gulf of Mexico located at the range of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountain Range known as Sierra de Cucharas.

The Municipality Head is a picturesque town, with dense vegetation and beautiful flowers, has a town square in front of which the Municipal Palace, and the office of tourism information that will provide help on the Ecological Reserve to those that need it, are located.

 

Historia

The Villa de Gómez Farías has its origins in what was the Congregación Joya de Indios, founded on May 1749, adopting the name of Villa de Gómez Farías on January 10th, 1869 to honor Don Valentín Gómez Farías, President of the Congreso Constituyente de Querétaro (Congress of Querétaro) and President of the Republic. A year later, by decree of the State's Congress is has promoted to the category of Free Municipality.

 

Como llegar:

Gómez Farías is located only 46 Km from Cd. Mante on Federal Highway 85 to Cd. Victoria, where you have to make a left turn to take the State Highway that ends at its Municipality Head.
